I happened to come across this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! discussing advice for preparing a Saturn to compete in SCCA competitions. Who needs BMWs when you have Saturn SC2s?

I've always been a sucker for SC2s. Probably because a friend of mine had one in high school that we'd hoon all of the time. Very underrated, and can be picked up for a few hundred bucks on your local craigslist.

I knew so many people in high school with Saturns. Second most popular car after inherited Buicks. I never did get to ride in an SC, although my buddies V6 Saturn smoked my Escort in a drag race.

I had an SL1 that I beat without mercy. Delivered pizzas in it and got 35-40 mpg all day. Until the head cracked.

Saturn Saturday? Have the only Saturn I've genuinely been interested in, the Ion Redline.
They also ran one of them in Bonneville.

I just realized what the world is missing in crapcan racing. Spec SC. Nothing but stock SCs, SLs and SWs. To keep things super cheap, shocks may only be replaced with Monroe units, interior must be intact (within reason), and use a control tire with over 400 treadwear on steelies or OE wheels. Could be cheaper than LeMons, and the car can be resold afterwards since it's still just a normal streetable Saturn S series.

Might be better after it's had it's neck wrung for a few hours and new shocks.

Ha glad my random googling could be useful! I'd love to see some pics of it in competition if/when you do it.

Yeah right now it's more of an if, with the new baby I need a new larger daily driver which means no cash for race car. But one day I'll get around to it.

I can't believe I missed this! I have an unnatural love for the S-car. I had two and would buy another in a second!
My second Saturn was a very nice SC1 that I blessed/cursed with an IHI turbocharger, methanol injection, and a couple extra fuel injectors. It wasn't pretty under the hood, but I drove that car every day for 2 years like that and besides an appetite for throttle position sensors (they'd get filled with methanol and corrode), it was a fantastic car. I never should have sold it.
